Bike Sheds in London: Handbuilt, Secure Storage for Your Front Garden

We build bike sheds to order in our Sussex workshop and install them throughout London. Over the 15 years we have been trading we have fitted more bike and bin storage in London than in Brighton. This page covers security for higher-theft areas, cladding and materials, which model suits a London garden, and how delivery and installation work.

With London just up the road, we deliver and install across the capital efficiently, and we work directly with homeowners, garden designers and landscapers on front and back garden schemes.

Designing London Bike Sheds for London Gardens

We have worked closely with many Londoners, creating storage for any number of bikes and bins. You can configure our range with add-ons, options and accessories, so there is a solution for most spaces, budgets and designs. In a London garden, all three dimensions can be the constraint: width where a front garden is narrow or bounded by a path, depth where the shed has to clear a bay or a gate, and height where it can be imposing. Measure all three before you choose a model.

The Corten Steel Bike Shed shares the Classic’s front-to-back form, clad in weathering steel rather than timber, so it suits higher-theft boroughs without changing how the bikes sit inside. You can size and configure any of these in our bike sheds range.

The Classic Bike Shed is the model we install most often in London front gardens, since at 2000mm wide and from 800mm deep it can often fit the strip between a bay window and a low wall, with bikes stored front-to-back. The Slot-In Bike Shed reverses that geometry: its depth is fixed at 2000mm and the width grows with capacity, with bikes side-by-side in a floor-mounted wheel rack for independent access, which suits a deeper garden and a household where two or more people cycle daily.

The Vertical Bike Shed is only 1300mm deep and hangs bikes on integrated hooks, so it fits narrow side returns, though it is the tallest of the range at 2200mm. Prices start at £1,353 for a Classic, £1,624 for a Vertical and £1,083 for a Wheelie Bin Shed. If you are weighing the models against each other, our guide to which bike shed is best for your bike compares access and sizing in more detail.

Cladding is where most London customers make the biggest visual decision. We build in western red cedar, Scottish larch and painted pine. Cedar slats are the most popular choice in London because the tone settles into a silver-grey that sits well against brick and painted render. You can see every finish on our range of cladding options. We also work in partnership with many London garden designers and landscapers, so if you would like us to collaborate on a design for a front or back garden, get in touch.

Bespoke Designs for Awkward London Spaces

A stand-out feature of London gardens is the lack of straight lines. The niches and alcoves that come with terraced housing are perfect spaces to fill with a bike or bin unit, and we design and build custom sheds to fit them. For the most common of these, the triangular void behind a Victorian or Edwardian bay, our bay window add-on lets you enter the dimensions of the space and tuck a shed into what would otherwise be dead ground.

Bike Transport in London

The best way to get around London is by bike, and the city is building for it. London’s Cycleway network reached 450km in August 2026, five times its 90km length in 2016 and now longer than the entire Tube network, while daily cycle journeys reached 1.5 million in 2025. More bikes in the capital means more bikes with nowhere secure to go, in housing that was built without anywhere to put them. We aim to give you a secure, weatherproof and good-looking place to store your bikes, trikes and cargo bikes.

Secure Bike Storage for Londoners

In every part of London, security is the first concern, so we build strong door sets with internal locking points and a range of upgrades. Turning the key on the primary door extends a hardened steel long-throw bolt behind the secondary door, and inside every shed a 32mm galvanised steel SecureBar gives you a fixed anchor point for a D-lock or chain.

Four upgrades can be added at checkout and are fitted by our team:

  •     Steel Mesh Door Lining (£245): galvanised mesh with 25mm holes fixed to the back of the doors. It requires an angle grinder to cut through and stays visible through slatted doors as a deterrent.
  •     Movement-activated alarm (£75): 125 decibels, armed and disarmed with a remote key fob.
  •     Extra Lock (£60): a second long-throw lock keyed alike to the first, repositioned to sit evenly across the door.
  •     2m Chain Lock (£40): 8mm hardened steel links with an integrated lock head, long enough to run through a full row of bikes.

Many customers also add security lights and cameras near the shed for extra protection. You can compare all of these on our bike shed security page or add them from the accessories range, and for bikes worth securing to the ground as well as to the shed, we fit ground anchors at £85 per anchor onto a concrete base.

Steel-Clad Bike Storage for Higher-Theft Boroughs

The Corten Steel Bike Shed houses 1 to 6 bikes and is designed for London, and particularly for the boroughs where bike theft is highest. Hackney records the highest rate in the capital: analysis of Metropolitan Police data by Lawtons Solicitors found 1,363 thefts there in the year ending April 2025, a rate of 4.8 per 1,000 people against a London average of 1.7, with Camden, Westminster and Islington each on 3.9. Around 1% of London bike thefts end in a positive outcome such as an arrest or conviction, and the Crime Survey for England and Wales finds that around 62% of thefts happen at or around the home. Recovery is not a realistic plan, so the storage has to hold.

The Corten Steel Bike Shed pairs a strong timber frame with a weathering steel skin, which protects the bikes inside from both theft and weather. The cladding is angle-grinder-resistant, and behind it sits a complete internal OSB layer that an angle grinder cannot cut, so getting through the wall means switching tools part-way and spending far longer at it than a thief wants to risk. It also weathers to a deep rusty-red patina between five and twelve months of exposure, which looks its best paired with a living green roof. Corten sheds are installed by our team as standard rather than supplied for self-assembly.

London Bike Sheds FAQs

Do I Need My Freeholder's Permission as Well as Planning Permission?
Possibly, and they are separate things. Planning permission is granted by your borough. Consent to alter a shared or demised outdoor space is a matter for your lease, your freeholder or your managing agent, and a grant of planning permission does not override it. Check your lease before you apply.

Existing paving is sufficient for any of our sheds, provided it covers the whole footprint and is reasonably level. Where paving is partial, extend it across the full footprint. A 100mm concrete slab cut to the shed’s width and depth is the strongest option and is what we specify for the Vertical, Corten and Cargo models. Full base and access detail is on our delivery and installation page.

Not without a power supply, and we suggest taking the battery indoors between rides as standard practice. If you want to charge in the shed, a qualified electrician can fit a mains socket. Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions and the London Fire Brigade’s guidance on lithium battery safety.
Yes. Alongside untreated Scottish larch and slatted cedar, we offer pine tongue and groove or pine slats with a painted finish in a range of colours. Matching the shed to existing joinery or railings also helps in a conservation area, where officers assess how a structure reads against the house.
Yes, at £85 per anchor. The shed needs to sit on a concrete base, you supply the anchor, and we recommend a Sold Secure Gold rated unit such as the Hiplok AX1000 or the Oxford Beast. Fitting is arranged after your shed order and invoiced separately.

Planning Permission for London Bike Sheds

Most of our London customers do not need to apply for planning permission, and we are happy to talk through where a shed will sit before you order. Rules do vary between boroughs, and front gardens, conservation areas and listed buildings can each change what is allowed, so check with your local planning authority if you are unsure. We can supply product drawings and dimensions on request, and our product specifications cover the measurements for each model. Site plans and the application itself are handled by you or your architect rather than by us. For developers working to a cycle parking condition, our trade planning guidance covers the standards.
