The best time of year to buy a bike shed

There’s no right or wrong time to buy a bike shed. We’re open for business, building and installing sheds 52 weeks of the year. But there are a few things you might want to consider in terms of the time of year you purchase your bike shed.

Buying a bike shed in spring

This is the most popular time of year for buying a bike shed because our customers often include a bike shed as the ‘cherry on top’ of a garden design or landscaping project, and time their garden improvements to be ready for summer. As the weather improves, spring is also when people start thinking about using their bikes more and look for a better way to store their bikes so they’re easier to access. Because it’s a busy period for us, this means you may have to wait a little bit longer between ordering and receiving your shed.

Summer is also a busy time of year for bike shed orders! The warmer weather means an increase in cycling and new bike purchases often go hand-in-hand with new bike sheds. It’s also when we all use and appreciate our gardens more, prompting us to look for ways to improve our outdoor spaces, so that they’re the functional and beautiful havens we want them to be. 

Buying a bike shed in autumn

With the start of the new school year, many parents will be encouraging their children to cycle to school – perhaps for the first time. A conveniently placed bike shed makes it much easier and quicker for kids – and parents – to get their bikes out each morning, reducing just a little bit of stress from the hectic school run. September and October are also a good time to buy a new bike because retailers offer discounts to clear out existing stock as they start to receive the following year’s models. And if you choose a living green roof for your bike shed, autumn is actually the best time of year for it to be installed. The sedum will have plenty of rain to establish its roots and will be ready to burst into flower when the warmer weather comes around.

Buying a bike shed in winter

We sometimes get asked whether we work through the winter, to which the answer is of course we do! We install our sheds in almost any weather; as long as there’s a solid, level base to place the shed on we’re good to go. With fewer orders and shorter lead times, this can be a great time of year to buy a bike shed because you’ll have it in your garden within just a few weeks.
